Number 283 is an arch top mandocello, the body is bocote, top is Sitka spruce, with ebony trim and a mahogany neck. The scale is 26", an inch longer than Gibson standard, allowing lighter strings for better sound (low C strings are .064" rather than standard .073"). An elevated pick guard and arm rest keep you from touching the top and dampening the sound as you play. Stainless steel frets for long life. A deep blackish stain with the soundboard grain peeking through, chrome hardware and all ebony trim, create a severe, classic look showing off the wild grain of the body wood.
