Number 45
This is an arch-top flat-back mandolin in curly maple and Sitka spruce.
The neck is wider than average, to keep from hitting adjoining strings
with your fingers. Finish is low luster oil varnish.
Structurally, the top and back both have X bracing, with the top being
an unequal X. The mortise-and-tenon neck is bolted on. It has a modern
2-way truss rod and adjustable bridge.
The top trim is curly massaranduba wood, with rare kingwood headplate
and fingerboard. It has an elevated finger rest made of bubinga which
matches the warm reddish tone of the other trim.
Gold hardware completes the warm color scheme.
This mandolin has a full, complex tone, sweet when played softly but
very powerful and punchy whey played harder. The tone has more rich high
overtones than the typical Gibson style instrument which has more mid range.
It would be a great mandolin for Celtic or old time music, or classical
mandolin orchestras.
