Number 63
This is a 12-string arch-top guitar. Unlike a folk 12-string guitar,
each pair of strings is tuned the same (no higher-octaves on the low
strings). Basically it's Irish bouzouki technology applied to a guitar.
The body is curly western maple, and the top is Sitka spruce colored
black.
Structurally, the neck has two 2-way truss rods to withstand the
tension of 12 strings. Top bracing is longitudinal struts modeled on old Epiphone
guitars. The bolt-on neck is easily adjustable, and the bridge has
thumb wheels for height adjustment.
This is a stunning looking instrument with its glossy black top, rich
stained maple body, and gold hardware. Bindings and wooden fittings
are rosewood with a gold pearl fleur-de-lys on the tailpiece.
This is also a very powerful and expressive instrument, capable of playing
very loud or very soft, with a great deal of sustain. The
action is low and easy to play. It would be great for jazz or swing
styles, especially in a group where you need to stand out and be heard!
