Number 80
This is an octave mandolin with arch top and flat back. The
body is Indian rosewood (dalbergia latifolia), the most popular
wood for high quality guitars. The top is Sitka spruce.
Scale length is moderate (590 mm), tuned in unison pairs.
Sound is crisp, complex, and even across the entire range.
Construction features include the usual user-friendly bolt-on neck
with X bracing in the top. The neck has a modern 2-way adjustable
truss rod.
Appointments include Gotoh open-gear tuners and a heavy
cast tailpiece for added sustain. The hand made bridge, head
veneer and finger-rest are Indian rosewood to match the body.
Decoration includes ornate Orpheum-style mother-of-pearl inlay.
Bindings are black ebony, with lines of white maple veneer to
frame the back and sides.
A flaring peghead with nickel F-style mandolin tuners and
cast tailpiece complete the ornate, traditional look.
Finish is buffed gloss KTM-9 water based lacquer.
This is a great instrument for any style. The shorter scale length
allows mandolin fingering (with a little stretching).
