Number 56
This is a long-scale (648 mm) Irish Bouzouki. The
arched top is Engelman spruce and the body is flamed maple.
Currently it is strung with unison strings GGDDaaee (no high octaves
on the lower two courses), but it could be strung in octaves: gGdDaaee.
This instrument is very lightly constructed to take advantage
of the rich set of overtones resulting from the long strings.
The top and back both have X bracing.
It has a bolt-on neck with heel for ease of maintenance.
The neck has a modern 2-way truss rod, and the bridge is adjustable.
Decoration includes Madagascar rosewood bindings, gold hardware,
Celtic knot mother of pearl inlays, and that gorgeous flamed maple.
Dark rosewood headstock and pick guard form a fine contrast.
It has a very rich and sonorous voice with many overtones, ideal for
accompaniment of Celtic music.
